Regional Report · Q3 2026
Oregon & Southwest Washington M&A — specialist businesses remain in buyers' sights
A target-headquarters snapshot of lower-middle-market acquisition activity across Oregon and Southwest Washington, July 1 through September 30, 2026. Large bundled transactions and geography errors were screened out. Every retained deal has an undisclosed value, so buyer behaviour — not price — tells the story this quarter.
18 Oregon · 2 Southwest Washington · Disclosed value under $100M plus undisclosed · All industries. Undisclosed transactions are retained by design; this is a screened sample, not an exhaustive count of the regional market.
The market read
Operating buyers did most of the buying
Operating strategic and platform buyers, plus nonprofit combinations, account for 16 of the 20 retained transactions (80%). Financial services and industrial and energy businesses together account for 9 transactions — 45% of the quarter.
The headline buyer mix understates sponsor participation. CONSOR Engineers is backed by New Mountain Capital; Airo Mechanical's purchase of Legrande's Enterprises was made in partnership with CCMP Growth; and Orendt Studios' investment in Straub Collaborative came through Beyond Capital Partners Fund III.
Read the quarter as evidence of buyer activity and capability-led consolidation — not as a regional valuation benchmark.

Notes on specific records
- Spree.Finance — Oregon designation comes from the screen; the Remote city tag is not independently confirmed.
- Chief Avionics — Target corrected to Chief Avionics; the screen had recorded Chief Aircraft.
- Forth — Nonprofit combination announced in Q3, expected to take effect in early 2027.
- Wayfinder — Acquired by a public charity; retained as a strategic education transaction.
- Financial Investment Team — Announcement date replaces the September 1 recorded date.
- Weinand Financial — Public release identifies Olympia and an August 18 announcement; the deal closed August 15.
- Straub Collaborative — Sponsor release states a July close; the screen records August 3, so the register uses the recorded date.
- Lotus Applied Technology — The buyer identifies July 29 as the announcement date.
- Willamette Valley Bank — Purchase price not disclosed; expected shareholder distributions are not treated as enterprise value.
Screened out, and why
- Cornell Pump → Xylem — Excluded — large bundled transaction. The announced Cornell + Roper Pump purchase is $1.46 billion and no standalone Cornell price is supplied.
- Insitu → Archer — Excluded — large bundled equity transaction. Insitu is one of three aerospace subsidiaries in a single stock-and-warrant purchase (19.75% of pre-closing Class A shares plus warrants), not a separately priced lower-middle-market acquisition.
- Wonder Showers & Baths — Excluded — wrong geography. The acquired company is headquartered in Rochester, New York, not Rochester, Washington.
- Bravo Fit → Franchise Equity Partners — Excluded — wrong target geography. The July transaction is explicitly the Australian-headquartered Planet Fitness franchisee, not the Oregon business tagged in the screen.
- Accumulus Technologies → Eir — Held out — identity / HQ conflict. The acquisition release concerns a 2025 life-sciences regulatory-platform spinout and is datelined San Francisco, conflicting with the Oregon-linked profile. Not counted pending geography reconciliation.
- Samaritan → MultiCare — Excluded — earlier affiliation announcement. The proposed affiliation was announced in October 2025; Q3 2026 reflects regulatory review, not a new announcement.
- Fordham & Co → Kernutt Stokes — Excluded — earlier announcement. Announced June 15, 2026 and effective July 1, 2026.
- Perkins & Co → CLA — Excluded — earlier public reporting. Publicly reported June 25, 2026; the July 1 release marks effectiveness.
- Formations → RH — Excluded — prior-year / identity mismatch. RH's reported Formations acquisition was finalized in 2025 and concerns the Los Angeles trade-furnishings business, not the Portland profile.
Methodology & quality controls
How this register was built
Eligibility
Targets headquartered in Oregon, or in the Southwest Washington counties of Clark, Skamania, Klickitat, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Pacific, Lewis and Thurston. Buyer headquarters do not determine eligibility; Washington was screened statewide, then filtered by target city. Acquisitions, mergers and nonprofit combinations are included. Disclosed values above $100M are excluded; undisclosed values remain eligible unless public evidence identifies a clearly large bundled transaction. No minimum deal size is imposed.
Buyer classification
Strategic covers operating acquirers and nonprofit organizations. Strategic / Platform covers operating consolidators; sponsor backing does not automatically move a platform into the financial bucket. Financial / PE includes Creative Planning, Wealth Enhancement and Cerity Partners — the sponsor-backed RIA consolidators in this set — plus Becklin Holdings, classified as family investment capital. The financial count is therefore not a count of four direct institutional buyouts.
Dates, values & coverage
Base acquisition records can represent announcement or closing dates; publicly verified dates replace the recorded date where the two differ. Earlier announcements that merely closed or were approved in Q3 are not counted again. The underlying screen has no EV/EBITDA or EV/revenue fields, so no value total, median deal size or valuation multiple is estimated. AUM, bank assets and expected liquidation distributions are not interchangeable with transaction value.
Research cut: October 6, 2026. These quality-control decisions explain why the final sample differs from the raw screen. Held-out geography cases are not assertions that the underlying transaction did not occur.
